Adding books
I can’t find a book by barcode or title.
Book search needs an internet connection. If the barcode won’t scan, search by title.
If there are no results, choose “Add manually” and enter the title, author, and page count.
The cover looks different from my book.
bbbkm displays a color swatch for each cover. Use the title and author to identify your book.
Can I use the app without camera access?
Yes. The camera is used to scan book barcodes. You can search by title or enter a book manually without granting camera access.
Reading entries
Can I record reading without using the timer?
Yes. Open a book and choose “Add reading entry”. Enter your start and end pages, and add any notes. A manual entry without a duration is marked “Time not recorded” and is excluded from total recorded time.
I closed the app while the timer was running.
When you reopen the app, you’ll be asked whether to continue or finish your last reading session. To change the recorded time, finish reading, open the entry in your journal, and choose “Edit entry”.
How is a bookmark different from a reading entry?
A bookmark saves where you left off. A reading entry records the pages, time, and thoughts from one session. You can move your bookmark without creating a new reading entry.
Locations and routes
Can I use the app without recording my location?
Turn off automatic location recording in Settings to stop automatically saving reading start locations and routes. You can still add books, use the timer, write notes, and view stats.
Turning this setting off does not delete locations already saved. You can also change location permissions in your device settings.
When is my route recorded?
A route is recorded when automatic location recording is on, location access is allowed, and you turn on “On the move” during an active reading session. Recording with the screen off depends on your operating system’s background location permissions and operating conditions.
Route recording stops when you turn off “On the move”, pause, or finish reading. Your device’s location accuracy and permissions may cause the recorded route to differ from the route you took.
Can I save my current location with automatic recording off?
Yes. Choose “Get current location” when finishing your reading to add a location to that entry. Location access is still required.
Backups and deletion
How do I move my records to a new device?
- Choose “Export backup” in Settings on your old device.
- Transfer the backup file to your new device.
- On your new device, finish any active reading session. Then choose “Import backup” in Settings and select the file.
Importing a backup keeps your existing data and adds anything missing. Importing it again won’t create duplicate entries. Backups include notes, locations, and routes, so check whom you share them with.
Does the app sync automatically between devices?
Automatic sync between devices is not supported. Export a backup from Settings and import it on another device. Operating system backups work separately, depending on your device settings and the service’s policies.
Does deleting something in the app remove every copy?
Deleted books and entries are excluded from normal app screens and new backup exports. Some data may remain on your device after deletion.
To remove all app data from your device, clear the app’s data through your operating system or delete the app. On iOS, “Offload App” keeps its data and is different from “Delete App”. Manage previously exported files and operating system backups separately wherever you keep them.
I lost my device without making a backup.
Your reading records are stored on your device. They cannot be restored without an exported file or operating system backup. Back up important records regularly.
